The Christian’s greatest weapon is prayer, not work, service, or theology. It is the communing in the spirit with God himself by prayer, not saying prayers, but in humble submission and basking in the presence of God and waiting, praising Him, loving Him, and thanking Him, as well as the burden of prayer and fasting for others and the situations they find themselves in around the world. Intercessory prayer has become a lost Christian artifact for their brethren for God’s Spirit to intervene for others, including the lost.
Take a look at God’s prayer warriors throughout the Old Testament and New Testament; nothing was done but by prayer first. Look at the battle of Gethsemane in the garden; the battle of the cross was first won there in prayer. Christ in the gospels says when you pray and fast, not if you pray and fast, it’s a command. Look at the great intercessory King Jesus, the great mediator of His flock. Look at the nights and times alone in prayer. Should this not be our example?
Should we not bend the knee in humble submission and pray until we are changed? Then we can be an outpouring to others through prayer for God’s glory. Prevailing prayer comes from daily time spent on the knees with Christ, but too many Christians have no prayer closet, no secret time alone with King Jesus, just a 15-minute devotion and an hour at the local church on Sunday worship. Well, this is why the church has no power, no real conviction, no real hatred toward sin and every false way. It has theology without the power and life of the Holy Spirit operating in it, all work and no substance.
The work should always flow out of a life of prayer soaked and bashed in God’s Holy presence. Prayer is the slingshot to the giant’s head, the wound by which cripples the devil’s will and brings forth the victory of God’s Holy will. Whatever giant you are facing, it is to be first won on your knees in prayer.
Prayer has also been taken away from the little children of God, and service and bible memory and stories have been replaced with how to really spend time with God in His presence, and it is prayer. Teach a child how to pray, to wait patiently for God, to ask God to reveal Himself to you. Look at the psalms and use them as a guide to teach your children what to ask for, how to confess the promises of God, and believe them and stand on them by faith. Look at Old Testament prayers and realize what one needs as the substance of their life, and it’s God. Whatever giant you’re dealing with, prayer is the answer for you and others. Take a hold of God today, stop being lazy, your King died for you.
